Junk Drawer Organization for $3!!

Howdy boys and girls!  I am in a great mood today...do you want to know why?

That's right...my messy junk drawer.

I have been feeling so lost on my organizing journey lately.  I opened this drawer looking for a screwdriver (do you see any?  There were 6 in there.  Insert eye roll here.)  I had a plan to get this organized and today was the day.

It's a nice small project that only took about 15 minutes and $3.  Can you believe it??  Why do I put these things off?  This was just what I needed to get myself back on the right path.

I started by emptying the entire drawer.  (actually I started by putting the dry dishes away so I had room on the countertop.  We need to get  moving on the kitchen update, but that's a story for another day)

Next I went though everything and organized into piles.  Pens with pens, batteries with batteries, etc.

Then, I tried out different configurations in the drawer.

This one was good, but i didn't like that little space above the right wire basket.

I really liked this layout, however the small amount of space in the back of the drawer would be totally wasted.

This is what I went with.  No weird spaces and enough bins to hold all my stuff.

After pulling all the garbage out, I got rid of the things that don't need to be in this drawer...

Not too much!

Extra tape and rubber bands should both be in the office.  Electrical tape and box cutters should be in the basement, and watch batteries should be in my jewelry box.

How did all these things end up here?

Once I got rid of all those (and all the expired coupons) I put the organized groups into the bins.  The final layout was perfect for what was left.

I put the bins back in the drawer and tada!  This was what we had

So much better!  Now I can easily find screwdrivers...and pens and tape!

I am so happy with how this is working for us now.

Have you done any organizing lately?  How did it turn out?  I would love to hear about it!

XOXO,

Heather

Dollar Tree haul

Hi everybody!

I'm checking in today because I hit the Dollar Tree and came up with a few projects to do. I'm sharing what I got and what I plan to do!  Here we go...

1. Cooling racks - Heather at Southern state of mind made an adorable earring holder out of cooling racks. I have been brainstorming new storage for my jewelry and it is perfect.  I will be sharing a mini series of all the different storage options I DIY for cheap!  See Heather's here.

2. Burlap ribbon - to go with the cooling racks!  You'll see how it comes together soon. :)

3. Tea light holder - This will be another part of the jewelry storage series.  There are a couple different heights available.  I got the shortest for this project.  I'm thinking bracelet holder.  Something with a paper towel tube.  I'll let you know when I figure it out...

4. Canvas bins - I am working slowly but surely to organize every part of my house.  My linen closet is on my to-do list and I think these bins will be great.  They come in a couple different sizes and colors. They will be perfect for nail polish, hair accessories, and first aid supplies.

5.&6. Wire baskets and plastic baskets - my junk drawer has gotten on my nerves for the last time.  With these bins I am going to finally get it sorted out.  Hopefully it'll stay clean if everything has a place.  I'll be sharing how it turned out later this week!

7. adhesive hooks - I have been searching for a place to hang my aprons and when I found these hooks it just came to me... duh, the inside of the pantry door.

Now off to do my projects!

Have you found any inspiration lately? Share in the comments!

XOXO,

Heather

Made by Design for Target

Hi Everyone.  Happy Friday!  This week has flown by.  I hope it has been a good one for you.  I'm so ready for the weekend.  It's going to be an interesting one.  One of our pool lines is leaking underground. :(  That will hopefully be getting fixed tonight so we can clean up the pond that the pool has become.  We'll have to dodge the raindrops but we should be able to get it cleared up.  Wish me luck!

The real reason I am here today(not to ramble on about my pool and first world problems) is because Target is launching the Made by Design line tomorrow.  It looks awesome. They have everything from dishware to closet storage.  I can't wait to get to the store and check it out.  Below are all the products that I already want!

Kitchen:

Open front stackable basket - This basket is great for a kitchen counter.  I'm thinking onions or fruit.  Maybe even k cups.  So many options!  The handles flip in so you can stack or flip out for easier carrying.

Flour sack dishtowels - I am in desperate need of new dishtowels and dishcloths.  I always hear great things about flour sack dishtowels.  So I am going to give them a try.  I love the aqua for a punch of color, but the white are classic.  Maybe I'll get a pack of each.  Now I just have to decide if I want solid or striped dishcloths.

Closet:

I need some serious closet organization.  I think between this line and the dollar tree I can get everything I need!

Shoe rack - Confession time...I have a serious shoe problem.  I have so many and they are all over the place.  My nicer pairs I keep in boxes, but the stacking system is not working for me.  This will help tremendously!
Hanging shelf - I have a decent sized closet.  Not a walk in but definitely a good size.  What I need is shelf space that's reachable.  The top shelf is pretty high and I usually end up spilling a whole pile of shirts on myself when i try to grab one.  I think this hanging shelf in combination with this hanging bar is just the ticket!
Sweater Bins - once I add the hanging shelf, the top shelf can be used for out of season storage.  I'm trying to decide between these or these.  Or maybe this is where the dollar tree will come into play.  I'll let you know.  :)

Bath:

I am working on a design plan for my main bathroom.  Right now it is yellow and blue with the green accessories we had from our apartment.  Not a good look.  I'm really thinking grey and yellow will be what I end up going with for this one.  The yellow is not changeable right now.  The tub is yellow.  I'll share pictures when we get to that project.

Bath accessories - these are so cute.  I love the whole collection.  I won't need the soap dish but the toothbrush holder and soap pump will definitely work!  This rug and a patterned shower curtain will finish the design nicely.

I think that's enough for right now.  I'm going to look through the decor items next.  If anything catches my eye (I'm sure it will) I'll do a second post.

Did you find anything that you had to have?

XOXO,

Heather

Things I think I LOVE!!

Wow!  That was quite a break I took.  I had planned to post last week but my sister is visiting from Georgia and I got caught up in family time.  #sorrynotsorry.  It was so fun to catch up.

I'm back today with another Things I think I LOVE!

1. Watch - I have worn the same watch for years.  I have tried different styles and it never fails I go back to the same one.  For $15 you can't go wrong!

2. Chair - I have lived in my current house for 4 years (already?! how did that happen?) and I am still working on furnishing all the rooms.  We went from a smallish apartment to a nice sized house.  So we are slowly but surely remodeling.  We're trying to finish one room at a time, but right now we have about 4 areas torn apart.  Ha.  I guess we'll just get it all done at the same time.

When I saw this chair I knew I wanted it for somewhere.  I am just not sure where yet.  Maybe in the (future) library by the fireplace, or in the living room.  Maybe I'll get 2 and make a little reading area in the bedroom.  I'm not sure yet.  But I'm pretty sure I love it.

3. Cabinet pull - So the kitchen is definitely on the remodel list.  I'm hoping to do a phase 1 renovation next year.  Eventually we are planning to add on and make the kitchen much larger.  But for now it just needs to be not ugly (which it currently is) and more functional.  We are going to add a drop zone by the back door and refinish the cabinets.  I am loving this pull.  It goes with the industrial rustic look I am going for.

4. Sweatshirt - I have been in a funk lately.  I kind of gave up on looking nice when I am at home.  So to get back to feeling good (and looking better) I have been trying to find cute, comfy clothes.  Out with oversized t-shirts and sweatpants.  This sweatshirt will be perfect for cool summer nights and will really get its use come fall.  I love the stripes and raglan detail.  Pair it with yoga pants or leggings and you're all set!

That's all I have for today.  What do you think you love??

XOXO,

Heather
